TV Globo is still selling equity in a number of affiliates. It expected to conclude negotiations relating to stations in Sorocaba and São José dos Campos (São Paulo) at the end of April, but a few details remained to be sorted out. In most cases the buyers are groups that already partner with the Marinho family, such as EPTV (Coutinho Nogueira) and RBS (Sirotsky). However, several other media and non-media groups have submitted bids for affiliates in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Paraná. For RBS this is a chance to make its dream come true: the Rio Grande do Sul-based group has long wanted to extend its dominions to Paraná and become the largest media player in the South. None of the parties has disclosed prices or how far negotiations have progressed. Sources say existing partners are being given preference but the real criterion is likely to be how much money is put on the table. Globo will retain an equity stake of at least 10% in all affiliates. It?s worth recalling that the group?s holding company, Globopar, expects to raise between 150 million and 200 million US dollars from these disposals.
