Anatel?s plans to reformulate the MMDS market and increase the number of areas, possibly to hold auctions for new licenses at some future stage, have come under fire from analysts consulted by PAY-TV News.
The first point raised is the large number of MMDS licenses already offered at auction in the past without any bidders at all or for which the winners later withdrew their bids. There are also cases of licensees that aren?t delivering commercial service and can?t be effectively forced to do so by Anatel.
Some analysts believe the right time to discuss the future of MMDS will be after networks are digitized, since the frequency now used for MMDS isn?t reserved for mobile services, for example. Others say it?s necessary to consider reducing the size of the spectrum allocated to MMDS operators that are already digital.
