Presidential Chief of Staff José Dirceu met Friday, July 18, with a delegation of film directors who want a stronger role for Ancine. According to Alain Fresnot, who represented São Paulo?s movie directors via APACI, Mr Dirceu was ?very affable? at the meeting and promised a decision within two weeks. He conveyed the impression that Ancine will be transferred to the Culture Ministry, as demanded by part of the delegation.
The meeting was set up by film star Lucélia Santos, a member of the Economic & Social Development Council. The 12 directors involved originally intended to deliver a letter asking for Ancine?s budget to be boosted by 16 million Brazilian Reals, but at a preparatory conference they decided instead to use the opportunity to ?discuss less circumstantial issues?.
In any event, José Dirceu promised to schedule a meeting with Finance Minister Antonio Palocci for talks on Ancine?s budget.
