Acom Comunicações is the first MMDS operator to receive a multimedia communications service license from Anatel (Portuguese-language acronym SCM). Acom currently has 12,000 subscribers in nine cities: Manaus (Amazonas), São Luiz (Maranhão), Teresina (Piauí), Natal (Rio Grande do Norte), João Pessoa (Paraíba), Maceió (Alagoas), Ipatinga (Minas Gerais), and Campos dos Goytacazes and Volta Redonda (Rio de Janeiro). In addition, it controls four operators (Cuiabá, Campo Grande, Juiz de Fora, and Santos) acquired from 191 Telecomunicações but not yet delivering service. Acom plans to use the SCM license to offer fixed-line telephone companies part of its bandwidth. It already offers a broadband Internet service in Manaus through a subsidiary called JetCom.
