Qualcomm Brazil will launch 1xEV-DO, the next enhancement of CDMA after 1xRTT, in the second half of 2003, promises Marco Aurélio de Almeida Rodrigues, head of the local subsidiary. ?At least one Brazilian operator will start using 1xEV-DO in that time frame,? he says, declining to name names. The technology, already up and running in South Korea, enables mobile devices to send and receive data at up to 2.4 Mbps. The top speed for 1xRTT is 144 kbps. GPRS can?t get beyond 56 kbps.
